What a day it was at the PA Farm Show's Sheep to Shawl competition. The two youth teams competed so well and both finished in their time limit. Our 4-h fiber club had a potato theme shawl that placed third and a bacon themed group that won reserve champion! A 4-Her was also awarded the weaver award! Our adult team, Just a Little Twisted, had a blast and was definitely a crowd favorite with our 1950's theme! We already started planning for next year!
We wanted to say thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported us throughout the 2015 PA State Farm Show at our first ever booth. The week was filled with many exciting events, lots of wonderful visits from fiber loving friends, and of course, an awesome day at the Sheep to Shawl event.
For the 2nd Annual rabbit hopping competition at the PA Farm Show, Ashley hand knit an Angora scarf for the 1st place prize out of our angora yarn! Congratulations to Amy Kehm, ABC's Good Day PA host, for winning the hopping contest!
Time has been flying by as we welcomed 2015 with open arms! Just as last year, we don’t see anything but exciting things as we approach another action packed year! This week we kick start the year at the 99th Annual Pennsylvania State Farm Show. For the first time, we will have a booth displaying new hand crafted products as well as yarns and fibers that were processed here at Blue Mountain Farms Fiber Mill. We will also be able to accept fibers for processing at the Farm Show. Keep in mind that Farm Show offers a Fleece auction on Wednesday if you were ever interested in purchasing your own fiber to be processed which we can do for you.
As tradition continues we will also be in the Annual Sheep to Shawl event with our team “Just a Little Twisted” sporting a pink and silver 1950’s theme shawl! We encourage anyone that hasn’t been to this event to travel to the Farm Show Wednesday January 14th at 3:00. Hope to see you there!
We wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout 2014 with our big move and addition of the fiber mill. We're very excited for the new year!
New Yummy Yarns...
We've been busy creating many new things for you. First, we've started our own line of hand-dyed faux yarns. All of them will be featured at the PA Farm Show and then displayed in our shop! We're very excited about them all. We've also created more 50% angora / 50% falkland. If you haven't heard about falkland fiber, its just wonderful and very soft. There aren't any sheep diseases on the islands so the sheep do not have to be chemically treated. The fiber is sent to Italy where snow melt from the Alps is used to enhance the whiteness of the fiber. We just love it and it combines fantastically with our angora to produce a wonderful yarn.
We've also added hand-made drop spindles, hand cards, lazy kates for drop spindles, yarn spinners, and more.
We've also added a lot of new yarns including Juniper Farms Cozy Alpaca in over 16 different colors, Zooey, a wonderful linen/cotton blend in 12 new colors, Woolie Soft Stripes, a wonderfully soft self striping chunky wool in 10 new colors, 4 new colors of Painted Desert yarn, and one of my favorites, Indulgence Luxury sock yarn in 10 new colors which feels incredible and even has a bit of cashmere in it!
Class Schedule & Open Knitting...
With the addition of the mill, starting in February, we will have additional room for classes. We have been working to finish the second floor of the mill to create a comfortable environment for group classes.
Thursday Nights beginning February 5th from 5-7 we will be offering open knitting. We will also be updating class schedules. If there is a class you'd like to see, just let us know. We can also host a class of your choosing at a mutually agreed upon time for you individually or with friends. Just give a call and set something up!
We also have received a few of the new Addi Express knitters. We have them in two sizes, the Addi King which retails for $249.99 or the regular size for $149.00. We can also hold a free class for you with the purchase of one of these machines.
The only other information we have to share is that many of the new items have been added to our online store. We are working very hard to get everything loaded. We have updated our on-line store as our current provider is going out of business. We hope you'll find that the check-out process is easier. As always, if there is something you'd like, but prefer to order over the phone, we're happy to take your order that way as well.
Happy New Year to you and your family!
